Group Therapy at Banbury Therapy Centre

Our group therapy is a warm welcoming introduction to counselling and psychotherapy. Here you will have an opportunity to explore life issues that may be causing you distress, anxiety or low mood, with trained professionals in a group context. It is affordable, accessible and is a proven therapy for anyone struggling with life events and relationships. After several sessions of group therapy, our clients report feeling more connected in their thoughts and feelings, and describe it as a validating, empowering and cathartic experience.

This is your group, so you can contribute as much or as little as you like.  You and your peers will agree about what is acceptable and not acceptable within the group. For example, you might decide that attending and listening is the only requirement for membership of the group.  This means that a person can attend without feeling obliged to speak out.  However, people get most benefit from group therapy when they enter into conversations with others and experiment with new ways of communicating.

Sessions are facilitated by two qualified therapists who aid the exploration of hidden or unconscious processes and meanings within the individual and group as a whole. Each person in the group has the opportunity to share their experiences and explore ways of relating in as much depth as they choose, in a safe and confidential environment.

Who is it for?

Group Therapy has proven very effective for those experiencing:

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Isolation and loneliness

  • Anger and stress

  • Emotion regulation

  • Relationship issues

  • Difficulty in communicating

  • Social anxiety

Who will lead the Group?

Two qualified therapists are present at each session and work with group members, to provide a contained therapeutic space, guidance and support.  The group will explore areas of interest that group members bring each week. All members are required to sign a confidentiality agreement before joining the group.

Group Size

The group will be limited to a maximum of 10 members. This is the ideal size to provide a safe space for participants to get to know each other. In this size of group people can develop trust over time and have the confidence that they will be respected and heard.

Cost

Sessions are £20 payable in advance making this form of counselling very affordable. However, if this is not manageable on your budget, please talk to us, as some concessionary places are available.
